The main reason we decided to rent a car on our last trip rather than taking the train was the Black Forest. The expression "it's the journey, not the destination" is definitely true here. Driving through the thick forests, down windy roads and steep hills, and suddenly you're in some little village, stopping off for coffee and pastry. Definitely worth it.
